Croydon School of Gymnastics was established in 1967 and we celebrated our 50th Anniversary in September 2017. The club has a membership of approx. 400 ranging from 12 months to 60 years young! We run a comprehensive programme with classes that cater for all ages and levels of ability from recreational to competitive gymnastics.
Gymnastics is an excellent preparation for many sports and can provide a structured opportunity for children to develop skills such as strength, suppleness, balance and co-ordination and it encourages concentration, discipline and general fitness. We believe it can set a child up physically for life, it can be hard work, but it is also terrific fun.
Dear Parents, Gymnasts and Members,
It is with deep regret and sadness that following the Prime Minister’s announcement this evening officially telling all nightclubs, theatre’s, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres to close, the Management Team at Croydon School of Gymnastics have taken the decision to close, even though the email we sent yesterday, said we would stay open until 6.00pm tomorrow. The centre will now close tonight, Friday 20th March at 10.00pm, and will remain closed until considered safe by the Government.
We generally wanted to try and keep the centre open so that our gymnasts and adult members could enjoy their classes and we thank those who supported us in that decision. However, we feel now is the right time to close as it would be too difficult to keep personal contact at a safe distance.
It is a decision, like many other clubs and organisations are having to face now as they try and work out how they are going to recover their business, especially if they are a non-profit making club like ours. We have invested greatly in educating/mentoring our coaches, they are an excellent group of loyal and committed people and we hope they will be able to continue at the club after we have all ridden out this storm. We are certain we will all come out of this much stronger and the gymnastic community is a strong group who will support each other.
In the meantime, we hope you all keep well, keep safe and stay sane whilst in Coronavirus Jail!
